Hello everybody in my account to another is out of this podcast to improve your English minus men with riptide had a red truck how I was fine and you find hope you had a great week after our last episode will be talking about how to chair a meeting on how to react if somebody feels the meeting is getting out of his or her control today. Tell me Richard annual holding or giving presentations to people every now and then. Yes my professional life I have to more or less given a presentation every three weeks and I will also tell your mother I can imagine. So I PowerPoint are or are you giving the presentation free. What is your strategy. How do you prepare a presentation that people are like ties fascinated thrilled and flabbergasted. So I will tell you some some sentiments and essays landed in my very professional life. So when I started my professional life I wanted to impress the people in the room and suggest I thought that if I press them just enough it would just remember my name and whenever there's an issue or problem they will think of my name. I can help. Also, my portfolio, the company will build certain mistakes I did, where today if you think about that that that big box my my my PowerPoint had so many bullet points. I think you have seen this PowerPoint presentation before where the person that is presenting as part one that is full of words just full of what the sea of words and make just drown in these words, I learned that your problem doesn't have to have every word of every sentencing. Just make it just used the most important phrases, sentences, words that are important and then try to just say the important facts also that you have on the PowerPoint. The most important facts and what you say on the right was the most important facts so you would not recommend to read a PowerPoint presentation to your audience with you. As of today, I would not do it then again you have to differentiate if you are a person that you know that you're not a good presenter and maybe are not fluent in English or you have other various knowledge becoming the speaker that you could read it. But again, I would not recommend it because it just shows that you notice good speaker. So if you want to be all appear or be perceived as good speaker. Just talk freely and let your PowerPoint be reduced to the most important facts identified. You never know if the technical support does work properly. So if you have of the presentation in your mind and you are not dependent on the PowerPoint presentation. You are also independent regarding technical problems. Have you ever come across an audience that people where playing with the smartphone all the time yesterday. I have I can recite from from from some years back. So when I was starting. As I mentioned before, and a lot of words on my PowerPoint a lot of bullet points that ended. I didn't realize that in the business meeting when you're talking to someone empty fact they just want the most important factor when I was having my presentation a program presentation was office complex. So different people where where in the complex, but in different offices, so it was a digital presentation and I saw when I looked up my screen I saw that some of the executive perform the management by looking down and I realized they're looking therefore nervous at that time. This was quite young and new in the profession and then later on I understood that yes, these people are in a time-consuming and they just can't comprehend everything because you have to. She imagine that everybody is guessing at them with numbers, but facts with muse and they have to extract the most important parts and if they just see that somebody is just reading everything that will just be tempted or forced to panel pay with the phone okay so this is one part of the participants. Those people who are really important to have a very important trouble at least a few that they are important and they are managing two or three things. Meanwhile there listening to your presentation and I will probably also get the most important points. The other part of participants are those who believe they are important, but there may be shopping on Amazon or writing to the best friends because statistics show that most online shopping is done between 11 o'clock in the morning and 2 o'clock in the afternoon, so this is the office time when people are supposed to work in the offices either home office or in their company offices so we agreed that I contact and really being with the audience getting the audiences that say interest raising their attention helps to avoid distraction through mobile phones yes and no to going specific. So when if you're presenting and you're seeing that participants are looking down on the screen of the phones of the mobile phones you can get the feeling that they're not listening which could be true and this could result into that you feel more nervous than before. He could feel that your presentation is good enough and then the most important thing that you could feel that you are not good enough. Your presentation skill presentations Style is not good enough that that would differentiate because don't take it personal. People have a life to live. You have to realize that people have left maybe the president participant is working my working mama working that alleges have to text their son or daughter a text message that they have to go home of the school because I can pick them up because there in your meeting so this don't take it personal. Try to understand and differentiate the information that you get that people have left the first don't take a person or entity, you can try to be more active in your presentation style. So use acting skills that Mattel investments but you have to understand that you can't get everybody just using eye contact or speaking with a louder voice are just using other skills since if you feel that that person that is constantly looking down on the first. There is so much interrupting your presentation, you can just say to the person boldly to please stop looking on your phone and listen. Then again you have to read the room and understand the context of that is higher management don't want to step on anybody's toes, but that this is something you can do and the fourth option is just ignored. So, again, don't take it personal. Try to to use eye contact or other acting skills. Talk to them in a polite way and avoid another. But how do you know that your presentation is not really rubbish have to be sometimes. Sometimes you know we are all a learning journey. So if you are into a new topic. For example, and is the first or second time that you are talking to an audience. In general, and you're not very skilled and not very experienced you're looking for feedback from the audience. Let's say 50% is not interested in what you're saying. You can either say well I have a life to live on beckons you can say I know it. I don't take personal but what if if your presentation is really bad if what you are presenting this out of the interest of your audience. If they are not there to listen to you about their in this meeting because somebody told them to. How can you divide to a separate the things that you should not personal to the behavior of the participants which I were thinking about it. Hello yes I think if you think every presenter knows if that presentation is good or bad is like asking a child what is good or bad there's there's an intuition in everybody to know if what they're doing is good or bad. And again, if you're present and you are not well prepared and most likely your presentation will not be good and you will feel it from the response of your audience the way you yourself presented because of the network. Prepared to cut off will use some words makes mistakes here make some mistakes that you will get in versus you will start to sweat. You will you will feel you will you know if your presentation is not good. And then I think you have to work on your self. Your planning skills in your presentation skills and then that's that's not that's not the problem of the target audience. If your target audience is sitting in the room and become preach to the choir them. You are just running the room and you have to go back prepare and come back strong ethical Firebird for this episode and if you feel the listener that you feel uncomfortable at your presentation can be better and that your audience should become fascinated and during 12 to have them be absolutely enthusiastic when you are on the stage. So when you're starting a presentation and you need any ideas just contact Richard and I are here to help you to get into the mood to become the perfect presenter no matter if you want to do it in German or in English or in any other language that you have to do presentations so Richard, thank you again for these this exchange of ideas and for helping me and our listeners to improve their English and their skills and business English and I wish you a great week and wish you great week to
